North Costa Blanca – also known as the Marina Alta When buying spanish property in the North Costa Blanca this will give you some essential geographical context. The Marina Alta is the most northerly sector of Alicante Province and is fringed with superb beaches of numerous types and ‘personalities’. The main coastal towns and resorts are Moraira, Denia, Jávea, Calpe and Altea. Five to twenty minutes inland is a closely linked network of beautiful inland towns and whitewashed villages surrounded by stunning mountain and rural landscapes. Perhaps the best known of these is the Jalon valley. Certainly the inland areas are worth exploring if Spanish property in a tranquil rural idyll is your thing. Benissa Just a few minutes drive from Moraira is the lively yet quintessential market town of Benissa with a brand new sports centre and excellent food shops. Its main square is dominated by the grand 'Cathedral of the Marina Alta' whilst the old town prison has been restored as a youth club. From the main road which connects you to Benissa from north and south there are breathtaking views all the way down the coast to Calpe with its magnificent Peńon de Ifach. Many people from outlying rural towns use Benissa as their main shopping and ‘facilities’ centre. It’s well served by a variety of supermarkets, as well as smaller family shops. The farmers market is held on Tuesdays in the square and there’s a car boot / flea market type market on Thursdays. Benissa is approximately seventy five km to Alicante and eight five km to Valencia
