When buying Spanish property, it’s not difficult to see why the Northern Costa Blanca property continues to provide a healthy return on investment. North Costa Blanca – sometimes referred to as the Marina Alta The Marina Alta is the most northerly sector of Alicante Province. This is the area popular with them ore savvy buyers. and is fringed with superb beaches of numerous types and ‘personalities’. The main coastal towns and resorts are Moraira, Denia, Javea, Calpe and Altea. Five to twenty minutes inland is a closely linked network of beautiful inland towns and whitewashed villages surrounded by stunning mountain and rural landscapes. Perhaps the best known of these is the Jalon valley. Certainly the inland areas are worth exploring if reasonably priced Spanish property in a tranquil rural idyll is your thing. The towns and villages worth considering if purchasing in this area are: Javea Calpe Adsubia Alcalali Altea Albir Beniarbeig Benidoleig Benichembla Benimeli Benissa Benitachell Denia Gata de Gorgos Jalon Moraira Murla Ondara Orba Parcent Pedreguer Pedramala Pego Els Poblets Sagra Senija Lliber Tarbena Teulada Tormos La Valle d'Alcalà Valle de Ebo Valle de Gallinera Vergel. Benissa Just a few minutes drive from Moraira is the lively yet quintessential market town of Benissa with a brand new sports centre and excellent food shops. Its main square is dominated by the grand 'Cathedral of the Marina Alta' whilst the old town prison has been restored as a youth club. From the main road which connects you to Benissa from north and south there are breathtaking views all the way down the coast to Calpe with its magnificent Peñon de Ifach. Many people from outlying rural towns use Benissa as their main shopping and ‘facilities’ centre. It’s well served by a variety of supermarkets, as well as smaller family shops. The farmers market is held on Tuesdays in the square and there’s a car boot / flea market type market on Thursdays. Benissa is approximately seventy five km to Alicante and eight five km to Valencia Javea (pronounced Habia) Javea Javea is in residential town and holiday town which has proven itself to be perfect for families. Buying a property in the Costa Blanca often begins spending some quality time in and around the environment of Javea . Javea is an easy drive from either report, Valencia or Alicante. It takes approximately one hour to drive from either of these airports to have their using the excellent motorway link. Spanish property is not the only attraction for visitors to Javea, the town has significant history and abundant natural beauty courtesy of the beaches the orange groves and the constant few of the immense Montgo mountain which separates Javea from Denia. as a result of careful expansion and development there is a wide range for those interested in buying Spanish property here. Villas, apartments, town houses and renovation projects are in plentiful supply. Javea has retained much of its Auld character and in the old town itself you will see the whitewashed buildings and narrow streets as well as the daily fish market in the port of Javea. Those buying property in this part of the northern Costa Blanca will be delighted we if the quality of the beaches to be found in Javea. the long sandy beach is gently shelving and ideal for families. In the evenings the area surrounding Javea Beach takes on a different personality as a result of the many art and craft stalls which are set up to display interesting and innovator if gifts. there is plenty of night life for those looking for this over what is reasonably discreet and certain does not detract from the character of the area. Senija With a population of 475 Senija sits below some picturesque hills just a couple of kilometres outside of Benissa. It is a sleepy little village yet is the location for several attractive new property developments. There’s a couple of shops and bars and 1 restaurant Midway between Benissa and Benitachell, Teulada is a charming market town with some VERY attractive examples of Spanish townhouses as well as a couple of attractive hillside urbanisations. Teulada is very well located being close to both coast and the main access roads north and south. It has superb views of the coast from the hillside it’s built on. It boasts excellent bars and restaurants as well as a Wednesday street market. Benissa is 4km away, Javea is 9km. Alicante and Valencia are easily reached on the nearby A7 motorway. Ondara A bustling mid size town Ondara comprises a warren of narrow streets and a central bullring – still in use. While not the most scenic of towns Ondara has superb transport links and is well placed for quick access to the beaches of Denia or inland to the Jalon valley. Ondara has several useful supermarkets, car showrooms and other useful services There are 4 big English, German and Spanish bars can all be found in Ondara. The main business of the town is agricultural (fruit and veg) Denia is 5km away, the A7 motorway is 1km away and is bisected by the N332 running from Alicante to Denia and beyond. Golfers can take advantage of the nearby LA Sella course Pedreguer At the Eastern edge of the mountains of the Marina Alta, Pedreguer is a small town surrounded by agricultural land and with many useful workshops in the small industrial area nearby. The various properties and townhouses of this Northern Costa Blanca location are painted in very bright colours even by Spanish property standards and many consider the architecture of the town centre as extremely appealing and “animated” The bars, restaurants and shops of Pedreguer are basic but eminently useful. Monte Pego - a large hillside residential development is nearby with a variety of villas with pools at reasonable prices by Costa Blanca standards. Pedreguer is right next to the main coastal road N332 and also the A7 auto via. Calpe Calpe is a unique entity overlooked by the Peñon de Ifach -a stunning rocky outcrop seen from all over the Costa Blanca. Calpe manages to combine a balance between lively beach resort and gentle family friendly town with excellent shops and services. The housing and development in this area is healthily mixed with stunning beachside apartments, luxurious villas overlooking Calpe and the Costa Blanca and several reasonably priced urbanisation developments. On this part of the northern Costa Blanca it is extremely difficult to escape the site off the mighty lurking rock, the Peñon de Ifach which stands 333 metres. As well as being popular with tourists and those who live in the property around Calpe understandably the rock is extremely popular with climbers. This mini mountain composed of limestone divides the two main beaches of Calpe. un surprisingly the rock itself has been classified as a natural park which gives it some protected status. It is possible to reach the top of the rock and take advantage of the superb views across the entire Costa Blanca. Calpe is classified as having approximately 10 kilometres of excellent, safe, sandy beaches popular with families as well as diver's or fishermen or snorkellers. one of the major attractions for those living in Calpe is the variety of quality seafood restaurants which can be found at around the port of Calpe and which make for a very romantic evening enjoying good wine and locally caught Calpe seafood. The Calpe weekly market is held on a Friday. . Calpe is close to Altea and is some 60km north of Alicante. Golf can be had . at the Club de Golf Ifach is 4km outside Calpe. Denia Denia he town of Denia lies in halfway between Valencia and Alicante. to many people on the northern Costa Blanca Denia is regarded as the capital of this area. It is undeniably cosmopolitan and has an obviously rich history. Denia offers those looking for property here are well off of choice and an enormous variety of charming attractions. Denia overlooking the town of Denia is an extremely imposing 16th century castle. The beaches of Denia are numerous either Sandy or pebbles combining long stretches of straight sandy beach with smaller coves and bays to enjoy nearer the south of Denia. The town of Denia has something for everyone and is built around a grand main street lined in the Spanish style with shady trees providing welcome relief from the afternoon sun. For a magnificent view of the northern Costa Blanca visit the castle. Denny Aires approximately eight kilometres from the motorway making access to Valencia and Alicante very simple. one other major attraction which the town of Denia provides is the book's upon which one can travel from Denia to the islands of Majorca and Ibiza. Beniarbeig Beniarbeig is a long established and reasonably wealthy village which has built itself around farming , citrus fruit, vegetables, olives. The village has a population of around 1870 and is very convenient to Ondara and the Denia coastline. This is a typical North Costa Blanca village / pueblo and has a small selection of essential stores as well as the central church. There is a steadily growing scattering of foreigners who have chosen Beniarbeig as the place to buy THEIR Spanish property and settle down in Nearby villages and towns of interest (near to Beniarbeig) include Adsubia, Benidoleig, Denia , Ondara Orba , Pedreguer and Pego. A short drive away is the spectacular Valle de Gallinera famous for villages with stunning rural property, views and tranquillity. North Costa Blanca – The Jalon Valley Jalon and the Jalon valley are a refreshing contrast to the nearby coastal resorts popular for Costa Blanca property - Moraira and Calpe . The most striking aspect of this area is the feeling of space and proximity of the dramatic mountains in the background. Fertile soils provide an abundance of olives, grapes and citrus fruits. Jalon is regarded by many of those seeking to purchase property in the Northern Costa Blanca as the ‘capital’ town of a small area fringed with peaceful and traditional Costa Blanca villages such Alcalalí Benichembla Benissa Murla Ondara Orba Parcent Senija Lliber and Parcent. Jalon itself has sports facilities, several excellent restaurants and some useful shops. Jalon For many people, the main attraction of Jalon is the bodega with a huge variety of excellent local wines Jalon’s annual fiesta in August is an event worth seeing with festivities including bull running, Spanish bands and fireworks. Jalon has its own Sunday flea market which is located adjacent to the river. Jalon's weekly farmers market is held on a Wednesday. From Jalon it is approx. 14km to the beaches of Moraira or Calpe. 6km from Benissa and around an hour from Alicante. Alcalalí This sleepy little Costa Blanca inland pueblo is situated very near to Jalon in the Valle de Pop – also within a couple of kilometres of Parcent. Of the various expatriates who have chose Spanish property in the Costa Blanca approximately 30% consist of English there are also a reasonable number of German nationals who have bought villas and townhouses in this area. Rural fincas are another popular choice in peaceful Costa Blanca valley area Orba Four kilometres from Alcalali is the picturesque town of Orba where the majority of the more popular Spanish properties there comprise villas and bungalows on very select urbanisations scattered along the hillside giving tremendous views over Orba. Tormos Close by to Orba, is the quaint village of Tormos with an excellent local restaurant serving regional and national Spanish dishes. Tormos is a few minutes drive from Sagra and Sanet y Negral. Benidoleig Another extremely attractive location close to both Orba and Tormos is the village of Benidoleig. The village lies at the foot of one of the Sierras and on first approach one is struck by the spacious and stately layout of the village, with its many winding roads and surrounding orchards and vineyards. Nearby to the Benidoleig is the well known Cueva de Calaveras – the cave of skulls. These are reputed to be those of Moorish explorers killed while investigating the caves. Directly above the Cueva is an extremely attractive new development of detached villas on the hillside with spectacular views of the sea and the surrounding agricultural lands. As Spanish property at reasonable prices go these are a real favourite of this author – mainly because of the space , the views and the real ‘Costa Blanca’ atmosphere
