Removal company? Drive your goods yourself?

By: Objock

Moving yourself and your possessions to Spain

Importing your belongings

In the majority of cases there are no real issues or impediments regarding the shipping of your belongings. It is worth pointing out though that if you’re only bringing valuables into Spain temporarily it’s sensible to contact the Spanish Consular offices. What you do require is a comprehensive list of all the things being shipped into Spain If you are resident in the EU it is unlikely there will be any situation whereby tax is charged on your belongings.

Appointing a removal company

Try to get references from previous satisfied customers. Satisfy yourself that they are well versed on the legal aspects of bringing household goods into Spain. Also ask them about their level of insurance and indemnity cover. In the event that you choose to use any temporary storage facility again make sure the premises are insured and satisfy yourself that goods will not become damp of stale. Ensure that you have a written and signed record of exactly what you have left in storage

Driving some of your own belongings to Spain yourself may, in certain situations, be a sensible idea although it is advisable to obtain consular advice in advance regarding what documentation etc. may be required as you cross from one border area into another . Also, don’t forget European breakdown insurance also!
